Angela Varela gives the rundown on multimedia sessions at AU
by Angela Varela
In a digital age in which employers are moving away from orthodox hiring methods and embracing professional networks such as LinkedIn, it’s very important to set yourself apart from the masses. Employers are looking for well-rounded individuals who are more than just proficient on Microsoft Office.
What better way than by showing off your multimedia skills!
Multimedia is an integral market of the twenty-first century. It allows you to convey information and engage users in interactive and innovative ways. Think of all the different ways that you get your information these days, and you’ll see that multimedia technology is involved one way or another.
In case you didn’t know, the New Media Center in the lower level of our library has merged with the digital media studio and will be offering multimedia training sessions through out the school year. Topics include popular software such as Final Cut, Photoshop, and Apple software such as Garage Band and iMovie. This is a great opportunity for you to learn things that you might not learn otherwise and employers will it find very valuable. Did I also mention its FREE?
Next time you have an assignment, forget boring PowerPoint and impress your class with a video or cool graphics.
Here is a perfect example of how multimedia is key for engagement, in this case in the classroom. Fast-forward to 7:45 of the video below to see how this teacher rethinks the traditional structure of a textbook math question, then integrates photos and video to help his students both understand and retain the information he’s teaching.
So what are you waiting for? Check out their schedule and give yourself the opportunity to learn new technology. All you have to do is show up!
